Abel Holsborough

Abel Holsborough - a residency with Grizedale Arts in an offgrid farmhouse

Abel Holsborough is an artist who uses photography, installation and performance to explore the un-monumental and to question what constitutes ‘useful’ art. Their interest in obsolescence and ‘not-quite’ archives has shaped their work, as an analogue photobooth technician and as a miller in London’s last working windmill. Holsborough’s site-specific work with organisations such as Artsadmin (Artist in Residence 2023/24), Grizedale Arts (ongoing) and Museum of the Home (2025) responds to and questions ideas of local heritage and belonging. Holsborough lives and works in Barking and Dagenham, in an experimental housing model, combining an artist-led public arts programme with affordable housing.
