Our impact

We constantly assess our work and strive to reach more artists

In an arts funding landscape that is increasingly unpredictable, we work to empower emerging artists and arts-focused nonprofits, enabling them to meet their creative potential.

Since 2022 we’ve given €1.8m in grants to 40 artists and 35 arts nonprofits, utilizing a trust-based approach to grant-making that empowers recipients, fosters creativity, encourages diversity, and enables emerging artists to thrive.

Through our own research, and that of our collaborators, we seek to positively impact the lives of emerging artists. We think about our impact on our grantees’ lives and careers in four key areas:

Stability: Improving living conditions for emerging artists through reduced financial precarity.

Time: Increasing time available for artistic, personal, and organizational development and growth.

Community: Accelerating networking and connection-making for artists, and the expansion of reach and capacity for nonprofits.

Trust: Boosting self-confidence thanks to the trust and equity that’s built into our approach to grant-making.

The report explores the lessons we’ve learned over the first three years of our programming, exploring how our approach to supporting emerging artists has been shaped, has developed, and–crucially–how we plan to grow and expand our impact in the years ahead.

The report explains who we are and what we do, delving into our impact on the lives, work, and communities of our grantees, and introducing you to some of the amazing artists and nonprofits we support along the way.

Looking to the future, we aim to have had a positive impact on the lives and careers of more than 100,000 emerging artists in more than 100 countries by 2035.

Passion and talent alone mean very little if you don’t have access or support — and that’s why institutions like The Supporting Act Foundation are so important.

- Ramon Theobald, Conductor

Since receiving the grant, we’ve been able to significantly strengthen our organization. One of the biggest shifts has been in our capacity—we added one more staff member to our administrative team, improving efficiency and sustainability.

- Ama Asantewa Diaka, Black Girls Glow

As female migrant founders, financial insecurity has often been our shadow. We’ve learned how to keep going— even when the budget was tight—but when The Supporting Act Foundation confirmed the grant, it felt like someone finally saw us and our mission. The “no strings attached” approach gave us room to breathe, dream and create.

- Melisa Manrique, much cooler than yours

My art practice and all aspects of my life are more accessible and manageable [with the grant]. I have more room to reflect on my health, organisation of my life and for inspiration, education and progressing in my art practice.

- Kani Lent

Prior to receiving the grant, we were struggling to make ends meet. But now we’ve been able to focus on paying people fairly for their work. We had been volunteering a lot on top of our busy day jobs, which wasn’t sustainable. The grant is enabling paid work – to pay people to do good work.

- Kate McLaven, YARC

I’ve been more able to network and start having those conversations with people. You can slip in there and say: 'I'm currently supported by the Supporting Act Foundation - I've got their creative bursary.' That's a great way to say, ‘Someone's put stock in me, and it would be great if you did that too.'
